Over Twenty Years Coming

Every day since 1994, I have passed Hoover Reservoir at least once a day on my way to Westerville.  Hoover is a water reserve for the City of Columbus and strict guidelines for types of watercraft are observed.  Pontoons with small motors, kayaks, paddleboards, canoes, and sailboats are approved as there is little pollution to the water.  I enjoy watching the high school rowing teams race and groups practicing yoga on paddle boards. The vegetation including  wildflowers are left to Mother Nature.

Ever since Emily, our daughter, was attending Robert Frost Elementary, we would set a goal to take sailing lessons as soon as school was released for summer.  We loved watching the beautiful sight of one or many sailboats on the water. I called the Hoover Sailing Club to inquire about class times.  Either Emily was too young for the adult class or I was too old for the youth classes...we never could meet the same requirements.

             Update to this Story

Emily has been working from Ohio for the last 4 months to escape the Coronavirus Pandemic in New York City.  We have enjoyed the time with her as she hasn’t been home for any length of time since 2004.  But I do miss all the time we used to spend catching up when she was HOME ALONE.  She has been working long hours and is spending much time with two men in her life.

Adrian, boyfriend, that we have had the pleasure of getting to know and Henry, the 14 year old chihuahua who demands so much attention.  I so miss my Emily time and might even admit I am a little jealous.

             Back to  Hoover

Emily invited me to dinner...just moi!  She had found a new place with outdoor seating that she really wanted to try.  She promised me some alone time, social distance from others, a beautiful, quiet place to enjoy some vino and catch up.  I was of course late getting home from a listing and had no time to change. She assured me all I needed was to eat a small snack and find my sunglasses.  I did think it was strange that she was very concerned that I find my sunglasses and that she had a canvas bag. The rest of the story...We ended up at the Hoover Sailing Club.  She had arranged for a 2 hour sailing trip with vino, cheese, crackers and her mother. Adrian had suggested this surprise...he earned some points.  Funny that our “sailor” was a former mentor of one of my students a few years back.  He is a meteorologist at NETJET and a Sailing Instructor at Hoover.  One other note, I did ask for the rate to rent a private jet to Sacramento to visit Andi and family...no Pandemic specials at NETJET.  Always worth a try. I need my Andi time too.
